Sports Equipment

Pre-register your sports equipment

You are reminded to pre-register all sports equipment:
  • at aircanada.com:
    • at the time of booking (while entering your passenger information) or,
    • if your booking was completed online at aircanada.com, up to 24 hours prior to departure by going to the Manage my Bookings page.
  • or by calling Air Canada Call Center.
Please note, however, that pre-registering sports equipment does not guarantee that Air Canada will be able to accommodate each item on your flight(s). Please reconfirm with the airport check-in agent at the time of check-in.

WAIVER

Sports equipment is subject to all applicable Excess baggage fees if over and above the free allowance.

However, oversize and/or excess piece fees will be waived only for the following items, provided they are pre-registered (waiver on these items does not apply if they are checked in at the airport on the day of departure).

Excess baggage fee waiver applies to pre-registered:
  • hockey bags (containing hockey equipment) - Oversize fee waived
  • hockey sticks - Oversize fee waived
  • skis and snowboard - Oversize fee waived
  • ski and snow boots (when items are carried along with skis or snowboard) - Excess piece fee waived
Packing Guidelines

Prior to your arrival at the airport, please pack your sports equipment by following the packing guidelines listed below. If otherwise packaged, items will only be accepted on board if the passenger signs a limited release form at check-in, releasing Air Canada of all liability.
  1. If checked in separately, each item within the sports equipment category is considered a piece of baggage that counts towards your free checked baggage allowance.
  2. Sports equipment is subject to all applicable Excess Baggage Fees. An excess piece fee will be collected at the airport for each piece that exceeds the free checked baggage allowance on an Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz flight.
  3. The sports equipment policies and fees of other airlines may differ from those of Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz. For more information, please visit the code share flights page or contact the operating carrier.
